Srila Prabhupada: Relentless Faith, Timeless Wisdom
In 1965, at the age of 69, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada boarded a grueling cargo ship from India to New York City. He suffered two severe heart attacks at sea, possessed no institutional backing, and arrived with less than seven dollars in his pocket. What he did carry was an unshakeable faith in his spiritual master's instruction and a trunk filled with his translations of ancient Vedic texts.
While the Western world was undergoing massive social upheaval, Srila Prabhupada quietly launched a spiritual counter-revolution. He sat beneath an elm tree in New York's Tompkins Square Park and began chanting the Maha Mantra — capturing the hearts of young seekers looking for real substance.
A Global Legacy Built in Eleven Years: He traveled the earth 14 times, establishing over 108 temples across six continents. He translated and published over 80 volumes including the Bhagavad Gita As It Is. He pioneered Food for Life, the world's largest vegetarian food relief network.
ISKCON: A Global Spiritual Network Built for the Modern Age
Founded in New York City in 1966, ISKCON (The International Society for Krishna Consciousness) belongs to the ancient Gaudiya-Vaishnava tradition — a monotheistic path rooted in the timeless wisdom of the Vedas. While its philosophical heritage dates back thousands of years, the movement itself was specifically designed to meet the psychological and spiritual needs of the modern world.
What began as a small storefront gathering of students and seekers quickly evolved into a mainstream global phenomenon. Musicians, artists, scholars, and everyday individuals from completely different cultural backgrounds found a shared purpose in this lifestyle. Today, you can explore the full scope of this international community on the Official Main ISKCON Website (iskcon.org), which coordinates resource databases and tracks our global centers across six continents.
